Speaker 1: the Iconic X fifteen back in nineteen sixty eight. But
Speaker 1: whereas the X fifteen required a human pilot, the Talona
Speaker 1: flies completely autonomously. Zachary Krevr, Stratalaunch's CEO, explained the significance
Speaker 1: of this autonomous capability. Hypersonic systems are now pushing the
Speaker 1: envelope in terms of maneuvering capability, maneuvering beyond what can
Speaker 1: be done by the human body. Being able to perform
Speaker 1: flights with an autonomous, reusable hypersonic test bed ensures that

Speaker 1: Launch acquired from Virgin Orbit after its bankruptcy in twenty
Speaker 1: twenty three. The longer range of the seven forty seven
Speaker 1: will allow the company to stage hypersonic tests from additional
Speaker 1: locations beyond the West Coast, with the Pentagon aiming to
Speaker 1: increase hypersonic flight tests from twelve to fifty per year.

Speaker 1: be considered planets, but not quite massive enough to sustain
Speaker 1: the hydrogen fusion that powers stars. This makes them extremely
Speaker 1: valuable for scientists trying to understand both exoplanet atmospheres and
Speaker 1: stellar dynamics. They essentially serve as perfect laboratories for studying
Speaker 1: atmospheric behavior in extreme environments. The new observations use the
Speaker 1: JWST's nier, SPEC and Mire instruments to monitor these brown
Speaker 1: dwarfs over an extended period, creating the longest baseline weather
Speaker 1: monitoring for any brown dwarf to date. What makes the
Speaker 1: study particularly groundbreaking is that researchers were able to observe
Speaker 1: wavelengths beyond eleven micrometers, reaching up to fourteen micrometers for
Speaker 1: the first time ever in brown dwarf research. This expanded
Speaker 1: wavelength range allowed scientists to capture both the upper and
Speaker 1: lower atmospheric layers of these objects, revealing dramatic weather patterns
Speaker 1: and the behavior of small silicate particles that form cloud
Speaker 1: layers in their atmospheres. The observations show striking light curve
Speaker 1: shapes in the deepest atmospheric layers, which researchers attribute to
Speaker 1: patchy cloud formations. Higher in the atmospheres between wavelengths of
Speaker 1: two point five to eight point five micrometers, the team
Speaker 1: identified hot spots caused by temperature and chemical variations of
Speaker 1: molecules like carbon monoxide and methane. Perhaps most intriguingly, they
Speaker 1: found evidence that small grain silicates contribute to the atmospheric
Speaker 1: variability in one of the brown dwarfs, but not in
Speaker 1: its companion. Since brown dwarfs are fast rotators that complete
Speaker 1: rotations in just hours, these time resolve studies allow astronomers
Speaker 1: to capture the inconsistencies in their atmospheres and understand the
Speaker 1: mechanisms driving these changes. The research team concluded that while
Speaker 1: different atmospheric layers are governed by different mechanisms, each variability
Speaker 1: mechanism remains consistent within its layer over the long term.
Speaker 1: This work represents a major step forward in our understanding
Speaker 1: of ultra cool atmospheres and will help inform studies of
Speaker 1: exoplanet atmospheres, potentially aiding in the search for habitable worlds
Speaker 1: and possible biosignatures. Scientists plan to expand JWST variability surveys
Speaker 1: across more Brown dwarfs to trace and understand these mechanisms
Speaker 1: across a wider population of objects. Finally, today, something a
Speaker 1: little different. Space enthusiasts and Lego builders alike have something
